knit fabric and nonwoven fabric
Knit fabric is comprised of a single thread that forms loops that interconnect to create a fabric formed with mesh. These meshes can lengthen and widen to achieve one of the most important characteristics of knit fabrics, elasticity.
For knitted fabric, depending on the direction of the stitches, we can differentiate between two different knitted fabrics: weft-knit fabric (horizontal stitch connections) and warp-knit fabric (vertical and diagonal stitch connections).
Some knitted fabrics are symmetrical on both sides or faces, but the majority of fabrics appear differently on the front than on the back, depending on the method used to create them.
Nonwoven fabric is a technical fabric in the form of a laminate, with flexible, porous fibres but no weave. It is manufactured by bonding fibres using mechanical, chemical or thermal processes without the need for weaving nor even needing to convert the fibres into thread. These fabrics tend not to be very strong unless their density is fortified or they are reinforced with other materials.
Some characteristics of nonwoven fabrics are: absorption capacity, impermeability, elasticity, fire resistance, softness, can be washed and sterilised. In addition, they are anti-bacterial, and depending on their density also offer a certain level of shock absorption. At Marina Textil, we combine nonwoven properties with fabric designed for specific uses.
