Marlan is a permanently fire resistant fabric developed specially for protection against large aluminium splashes (750 ºC) and cryolite (1,100 ºC), as well as iron, steel and other molten metal splashes, such as copper, magnesium, lead or nickel, surpassing various European EN and American ASTM standards.
This fabric earns top marks in protection against aluminium splashes: D1, D2 and D3 and iron and steel splashes: E1, E2 and E3, according to the European EN ISO 9185 standard. Likewise, it complies with the IPAI test for cryolite required for primary aluminium foundries.
The key of this molten metal splashes protection fabric is the mixture of wool with fireproof fibres grants fantastic thermal insulation characteristics, also preventing the molten metal from sticking to the fabric, which is the main problem of fabrics with synthetic fibres.
The protection Marlan® offers is inherent to the fabric, which means that the level of protection does not decrease with use. Even after subjecting the fabric to many industrial wash cycles, its properties remain unaltered throughout its useful life.
Some of the Marlan fabrics have been aluminised in order to improve protection of personnel exposed to high heat sources. The improvement in radiant heat values (ISO 6942) allow the wearer to perform his or her job in protected, comfortable conditions, improved with the lamination process. The primary group that uses these fabrics is the smelting sector.
